Welcome to Creston Valley Funeral Services, where compassionate care meets a legacy of service spanning over six decades. Our journey began with the establishment of G.F. Oliver Funeral Chapel in 1957 by George and Norma Oliver, marking the inception of a family tradition deeply rooted in the Creston Valley.
Oliver Funeral Home emerged from the vision and dedication of George Oliver, who, having received his diploma from the Alberta School of Embalming in 1956, ventured into the funeral business with his family. The funeral home, initially purchased from Stan Hendren Sr., soon became a cornerstone in the community, offering support and solace during times of loss. A new funeral home was erected, and the Olivers began their venture in August 1957, operating 24/7 to serve the community without the convenience of pagers or cell phones. In 1978, George and Norma decided it was time to incorporate, Oliver Funeral Home was already taken, so George put his initials in front, making it G.F. Oliver Funeral Chapel Ltd.
In 1986, son-in-law Dennis Kemle began his funeral directing and embalming apprenticeship under George’s guidance. Graduating in 1988, Dennis continued the family legacy, working alongside George, Norman McDonald, and Vern Fellman for over 30 years serving the families of the Creston Valley, Kootenay Lake, and Yahk. Dennis took the reins of G.F. Oliver Funeral Chapel after George's retirement in 1995 with the assistance of daughters Alicia and Gillian as the office managers. In 2011, the family funeral home was sold to investors and Dennis managed the funeral home for the new owners until his retirement in 2015.
In 2021, a new chapter unfolded as Creston Valley Funeral Services opened its doors under the leadership of Jason Meidl and Alicia Kemle, daughter of Dennis and Cheryl Kemle. This marked the continuation of a legacy deeply rooted in compassion and community service. Jason, Alicia, and Dennis are honoured and privileged to serve the residents of the Creston Valley and area in their time of need and are proud to operate by the motto left behind by George Oliver, “provide service to each and every family as it is your own family member.”
