The history of the funeral home at 114 Main St. E., in Milton began in 1958 when Lachlan McKersie and another funeral director, Murray Thatcher went into business together establishing the McKersie and Thatcher Funeral Home. After a time, Mr. Thatcher sold his share of the business to Lachlan and it became known as The McKersie Funeral Home.
Upon his retirement in 1980, Mr. McKersie sold the business to the Kocher family and it became known as McKersie-Kocher Funeral Home in time. The Kocher family ran the business for over three decades before also opting to divest of their ownership in 2016. Jeff Glendinning, of Plattsville, Ontario, then owned the funeral home, until in 2022 the owners of J. Scott Early Funeral Home, also a Milton business, bought the establishment.
J. Scott Early Funeral Home at 21 James St. was established in 1987 by Scott Early and his wife Michelle. Scott was a lifelong Campbellville/Milton resident who had worked at the McKersie-Kocher Funeral Home for some time. Due to health issues for both he and his wife, they sold their business to Kim and Rebecca Hunter in 2005. Rebecca served as the managing funeral director there from then until 2022 although they never changed the name from J. Scott Early.
